One of my goals for 2012 is to have a weekly date night with my husband. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive. Just time together as a couple. Without the kids hanging on us, without computers on our laps, without distractions. Well, January is over and so far so good! Here's what we did this month.....
Week 1:
Wedding Reception in Chicago - Good friends of ours got married over Thanksgiving in Hawaii and had their reception back at home. Our entire trip was without kids so it was like a date weekend!
Week 2: Jigsaw Puzzle - Yep, we've been working on a jigsaw puzzle (and its still not done - oops). This was a great date night because it has been something that we sit and do together in the evening for 30 minutes here and there when we get a chance. Plus, we borrowed this puzzle from my mom so we didn't have to spend a thing for this date night! Seriously, it has been a lot of fun!
Week 3: Movie Night - My sweet, sweet husband let me rent, the movie,
The Help. I got the book for Christmas, read it in just a couple of days and
really wanted to see the movie
! Of course we used a FREE Redbox code. Give
BREAKROOM or
DVDONME a try if you haven't already. Or
DVDATWAG at any Walgreens location. Remember, you can use the code with each credit/debit card that you own. We got a few Visa gift cards for Christmas and we were able to use those as well. Just return it by 9pm the next day so you don't end up paying for it!
Week 4: State of the Union - Yep, we watched the State of the Union together! Exciting, I know! So exciting that I had to ask my husband what we did last week. We also watched the movie
Courageous
later in the week so maybe I should count that as our date night. If you haven't seen this money, it is,
in my opinion, a must for families! Be sure to bring the Kleenex.
Week 5:
Heather's House of Hilarity - For Christmas, Jeff got a bag of Laffy Taffy candy with a ticket for
Heather's House of Hilarity (awesome name, right!) taped to it. He knew it was coming but had no idea what was involved. This idea came from the wonderful
Love Actually blog, filled with some great date night ideas! This date night was inspired by her
Comedy Club Date Night In. Went through each Act as she suggested but here's how I did it:
Act 1: Mad Libs - I used some online, free printable Mad Libs type stories. I didn't read through them first, just printed and they ended up being pretty cheesy. That's ok though, we still had fun.
Act 2: Comedians on YouTube - This was the best part! We started out watching videos of Mike Birbiglia (one of my husband's favorites) and ended up watching news bloopers and game show funnies.
This Family Feud clip just cracked me up! It was fun.
Act 3: Laffy Taffy - Wow, these were cheesy. A lot of groaners and not the kind of groaners that make you chuckle.
More date nights to come - 47 weeks left to go! I plan on posting a monthly wrap-up each month, just like this one. If you have any awesome suggestions, send them my way!!
